Parent Carers High Support Needs Group

Launch New Steps2Health Project

in Carers Week 2007

Parent Carers Healthy Steps

Pembrokeshire Parent Carers High Support Needs Group marked Carers Week this year by launching their own healthy walking group with help from Steps2Health.

On Saturday group members, many with their families, enjoyed  a scenic walk from Wiseman’s Bridge to Saundersfoot and back. This popular section of the Coast Path not only has great views, it is suitable for all abilities of walkers and wheelchair users.

The walk was organised by Caroline Mason , Chair of the High Support Needs Group,  and Carer Representative on the Local Health Board.

It was made possible thanks to support from Sustainable Pembrokeshire Small Grants Scheme and  the trained volunteer leaders and regular walkers from the Pembroke Dock Steps2Health walking group.

Altogether 44 people successfully completed the round trip to Saundersfoot and back. They were joined by Chris Martin, Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Local Health Board who also has a family caring role for his son.

Chris said: “It’s really good to see so many carers and families enjoying themselves in a happy, healthy social way. I’m delighted to be able to support them today and urge them to keep up the good work”
